World Mental Health Day

Every year on the 10th of October the World Health Organisation recognises World Mental Health Day. Today provides an opportunity for everyone to  talk about their mental health in and outside of work, and discuss what needs to be done to improve mental health care. Today also builds on the momentum of what we’ve been doing behind the scenes the past month.

Last month was World Physical Therapy Day where the topic was Physical Therapy & Mental Health and today provides an opportunity for reflection on the topic. Later on today Amanda Ager will be posting a Voices Column discussing just that – what can we do as physiotherapists?

If you missed what other mental health topics we’ve been discussing the past month then another was compassion fatigue also known as ‘burnout’. This is a really important concept to get your head around as a clinician. Make sure you read the post to look after your mental health.

Are you Looking after Your Mental Health as a Clinician?

As physiotherapists mental health is often something we struggle to get our heads around. Thankfully the WHO have created a number of really useful publications to help teach us what we need to know and what we need to tell our patients.
