New RACGP Guideline for Management of Hip & Knee OA

The Royal Australian College of GPs released a new guideline for the management of Hip and Knee OA yesterday. The move is good news for Australia’s physiotherapists as the new guidelines signals the move away from surgery and medication and towards exercise and self-management.

This update is the first for 8 years and has aligned the RACGP’s advice with other organisations around the world such as NICE. Opioids, glucosamine, acupuncture and arthroscopic surgery have are all now advised against and adopting exercise and a healthy lifestyle is now the priority.
