Student Funding

Long-term funding for physiotherapy education has been under threat over the past few years in England. There was very real chance that funding for those wishing to study physiotherapy as a pre-registration masters or as a second undergraduate degree would not receive any funding whatsoever. This was a particular concern to those who have dependents and young families considering a career change.

Nationally it was also a concern as there is a shortage of physio’s in some areas of the country and modelling suggests up to 500 new graduates are needed each year to meet demand.

There is good news. Funding will not be slashed for those applying for 2017/18 and a longer term plan will be set in place after this. There will be extra support for those who have childcare costs as well as travel and accommodation expenses during clinical placements.
