These issues range from sexual and gender-based violence to protecting volunteers. The Red Cross and Red Crescent released their recommendations in a series of infographics.
For physiotherapists who are involved in planning for and responding to disasters, you’ll be particularly interested in the recommendations on the safety and security of humanitarian volunteers and those regarding the strengthening of disaster laws.
With the WCPT advocating for physiotherapists to play a prominent role in disaster management, it’s encouraging to see that the recommendations include providing volunteers with “the best safety-related information and guidance, protective equipment and psychosocial support and insurance.”
