New members learn topic on the knee now available.

Have you seen our new learn topic on the knee?  This self directed educational opportunity is a great way to revise, test and improve your knowledge of the knee.  Starting with the basics of knee anatomy and function we move right through to current opinion from leading knee specialists.

We start with a comprehensive quiz on knee anatomy and function which is a great learning activity in itself and then we take a look at around 40 conditions of the knee.  Following this we explore knee examination with a comprehensive knee examination page in Physiopedia, technique videos and also two special resources on diagnostic imaging.

There are three book chapters to refer to including:

  • Knee.Magee, D. Chapter 12 In: Orthopedic Physical Assessement. Elsevier, 2014
  • Management of knee disorders: A neuro-orthopaedic perspective.Bucher-Dollenz, G and Hengeveld, E. Chapter 4 in: Maitland’s Peripheral Manipulation. Elsevier, 2014
  • Movement System Syndromes of the Knee.  Harris-Hayes M, Cornbleet SL, Holtzman GW. Chapter 7 in: Shirley Sahrmann. Movement System Impairment Syndromes of the Extremities, Cervical and Thoracic Spines. Elsevier, 2011.

We cover some aspects of treatment by looking at some openly available guidelines for certain knee conditions including osteoarthritis, patellar tendinopathy and anterior knee pain, as well as looking at more video techniques which are always available for you to refer back to.

There are two audio interviews from husband and wife team Jonathan Bell and Claire Robertson.  Jonathan is a leading knee surgeon in the UK who is a big fan of physiotherapy and Claire is a specialist clinician and researcher in the patellofemoral joint. It’s well worth putting aside some time to listen to them both.

This is a great continuing education and professional development opportunity to revise and or expand your knowledge of the knee!
