Dr Fiona Moffatt, lecturer at the University of Nottingham (UK), recently published an article in the Sociology of Health and Illness which investigated the important topic of productivity in the healthcare context. In this 25 minute conversation with Rachael at Physiopedia, Fiona highlights how the concept of productivity has many different interpretations depending on the viewer’s context and the clash of perspectives is the cause of many problems in the continuing evolution of healthcare systems as they strive for greater efficiency. She argues that if physiotherapists understand the concept of productivity they can use this perspective to both evaluate their practice and also seek to influence healthcare decision makers more effectively.
