…Adhesive capsulitis and frozen shoulder are terms are often used interchangeably. Frozen shoulder was defined by Dr. Codman years ago as conditioning difficult to define, difficult to treat, difficult to explain from the point of view of pathology. It is often used to refer to any shoulder condition consisting of pain and limited range of motion. I think that it is one of the challenges that we have as clinicians. I know that in my clinical practice, people who have shoulder pain and limited range of motion very often are automatically labeled with having adhesive capsulitis and frozen shoulder, which I think is part of what makes the diagnosis as well as treatment of this group of patients a little more challenging. We will explore in this course what the evidence says as far as are these patients the same, and when we find some differences, how that is going to impact our treatment approach.
