Straight talking from the new CSP chair

From physiotherapy assistant to academic head of subject, CSP chair Helena Johnson has travelled a remarkable career journey.  Helena took over as chair when the society was on the brink of industrial action over NHS pensions. Strange and interesting times, indeed, to be taking over as CSP chair and as the dust begins to settle, Helena talks about her priorities for her tenure. Her priorities for the year ahead includes a push for physiotherapists to market themselves a bit more.  Physios, she says, work with patients towards realist goals, they tend to be very honest and don’t pretend to do something unrealistic. But that doesn’t necessarily convince others you’re the best person for the job. She warns that, more than ever before, we are in competition with chiropractors or osteopaths under any qualified provider, so we need to sell ourselves more, not just sit back thinking we are doing a good job.
