Four prestigious speakers will be visiting Liverpool during 2010 to deliver lectures on the theme of ‘health and wellbeing.’

Paralympian Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, epidemiologist Professor Sir Michael Marmot, Médicins Sans Frontières’ Nathan Ford and former peace negotiator and humanitarian Terry Waite CBE have all been confirmed as guest speakers for the University’s annual Public Lecture Series.

Multiple gold medal-winning Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, widely considered to be one of the most successful disabled athletes in the world, will launch the series on Tuesday 27 April with an inspirational lecture entitled, ‘Seize the day.’

On Wednesday 23 June, internationally-acclaimed Professor Sir Michael Marmot will be speaking about health inequalities between different social groups in his lecture ‘Fair society, healthy lives.’  Then on Monday 5 July, Nathan Ford, Head of the South African Unit at medical relief agency Médicins Sans Frontières, will be speaking on the subject, ‘Humanitarian action and medical innovation: providing HIV/AIDS care in resource-limited settings.’

Finally, to close the series, Terry Waite CBE, who was famously taken hostage in Beirut in the late 80s, will deliver a lecture entitled ‘Survival in solitude’ on Tuesday 5 October which will cover his time in captivity and the impact the experience had on his faith.

Public lectures are FREE to attend but places are limited.  We have a number of priority tickets for alumni and the deadlines for booking these close one month prior to each lecture. Please quote ‘alumni’ when booking your ticket.
