Evidence In Motion (EIM) Physical Therapy Course Participants Volunteer for Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon Medical Response Team

Louisville, KY (PRWEB) March 08, 2013

Evidence In Motion (EIM), an educational institution for physical therapists, is pleased to announce that participants in their April 26-27, 2013 Emergency Medical Response (EMR) Course will be volunteering as part of the medical team for the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon and Half Marathon on April 28, 2013. These skilled physical therapists will be working closely with other health care professionals to provide runners with rapid assessment of medical needs and to administer acute first aid services. The participation of EIM trained physical therapists is expected to reduce the number of runners needing to be transferred to local hospitals.

“The EIM physical therapists will play an important role in the medical care of injured runners,” says EIM Sports Residency Director and EMR Course instructor Teresa Scheumann, PT, DPT, SCS, ATC. “Medical conditions encountered during a marathon differ from those typically seen in a clinical setting. The Emergency Medical Response training makes them uniquely qualified to respond to cardio-respiratory, musculoskeletal, environmental, and other medical emergencies.“

This volunteer opportunity in conjunction with the EMR course allows physical therapists to put the interventions and techniques studied in the course to immediate use in real-life situations under the mentorship of race Medical Director, David Haynes, and EIM faculty members Teresa Scheumann, PT, DPT, SCS, ATC and Mark Anderson, PT, PhD, ATC.

“We at the Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon are excited to have sports physical therapists that have emergency medical training participate in our event this year,” states Haynes. “It is only with the help of these crucial volunteers that we are able to provide a safe and enjoyable event in our great city”
