5 Ways Physiopedia Ensures You Read Top Quality Trustworthy Information

Physiopedia is a UK based charity and it is the biggest most viewed online resource for physiotherapists in the world.  All content is created by volunteers to share with the global physiotherapy community – a wiki for physios.

A wiki is a collaborative tool that allows people to come together and contribute and modify pages of knowledge. In the case of Physiopedia it’s physiotherapists which come together to create a shared knowledge resource bespoke for our professions needs. Over the years this has evolved to include information relevant for other heaclthcare professions as well as patients too.

A Wiki You Can Trust

As with all wiki’s, there is always discussion and concern about quality assurances as after all pages are created and edited by the community from all over the world. To date over 3,000 pages have been created and we have put in a number of processes to make sure that these pages are relevant and accurate.

Every month, over 3 million individual physiotherapists from nearly every country in the world learn from the Physiopedia website.

Every month over 3 million people visit Physiopedia so we must be doing something right. So how do we maintain high standards throughout our pages?

1 Robust Editor Training Process

To ensure that pages are relevant to Physiotherapists we have a policy that our pages are created by Physiotherapists.  Over the years we have built a strong network of volunteers and contributors who dedicate their time to creating and reviewing content.

We have pages that are created and reviewed by students and clinicians as part of Content Development Projects, Physiopedia Volunteers and also by experts as part of Course Development Projects.

2 Transparent Quality Assurance Processes

Physiopedia is committed to bringing you the best educational content possible whilst pushing technological boundaries of our profession. This is why Physiopedia has both a Trustee Board and an Advisory Council.

The Trustees have responsibility for the control and direction of the affairs of the charity. The Physiopedia Trustees bring a unique set of skills and experience together to support the Physiopedia charity and help it achieve its aims. The Trustees are supported in their governance function by the Advisory Council.

The Physiopedia Advisory Board has been set up to provide professional, globally relevant and project related advice and information to the Physiopedia Trustees. The members of the Advisory Board are respected individuals that bring a unique set of skills and experience together to support the Physiopedia charity and help it achieve it’s aims.

We also have our Content Manager, Kim Jackson, and a team of dedicated volunteers working hard behind the scenes to ensure that Physiopedia is a source of accurate, relevant, factual and credible information that is sourced from up to date research that helps to inform practice and decision making.  The team works hard to ensure the quality and improvement of content on Physiopedia and helps put the Trustees plan into action.

4 Diverse Methods of Content Creation

We have several different ways clinicians, teams and organisations can contribute to the Physiopedia mission. This means that we foster a community which ensure that great content is created and continually updated on a diverse range of topics from many different perspectives.

  • Content Development Projects – These projects are a way for academic institutions, clinics and professional organisations to share their knowledge and expertise with Physiotherapist all over the world.
  • The One Page Project – The Project where YOU take responsibility for just one page in Physiopedia. We invite every physiotherapist to take responsibility for just one page in Physiopedia. Keeping your page updated will take up very little of your time, can be recorded as a continuing education and professional development activity, and will be your altruistic contribution to our global profession.
  • The Volunteer Teams Topic of the Month – With almost 4,000 pages of physiotherapy content on Physiopedia the team is constantly looking for any missing pages, new  information, formatting errors and the latest evidence to create and update Physiopedia pages. This is why we choose a topic to focus on as a team each month.

5 Our Audience Hold Us to Account

Physiopedia strives to meet not only its expectations but our audience and community too.  As our resources grow in number it becomes challenging to monitor every page and this is where you come in.  As a resource for physiotherapists we need your help to hold us up to the standards we want to uphold.  We listen to your suggestions on how we can improve so lets continue working together to make awesome content.
