“The articles help in keeping up-to-date with developments in physiotherapy around the world” – Qiyao, Physiotherapist

This week the 60th issue was sent to your inboxes. We are always looking to improve the content and tailor it to what you really want to read, so we’ve been looking back to see what are your most read posts from the first 60 issues – check out these resource gems below.

Number 5: What does your pain feel like?

“What does your pain feel like?” is probably the most ubiquitous clinical question asked by physiotherapists around the world. We often quickly try and link the patients response to clinical patterns but sometimes patients find it hard to describe the type of pain they are experiencing making it hard to match symptoms with clinical patterns.

Over 800 top tips readers opened an infographic created by @invisible_pain_warriors on Instagram and we can see why. It gives a novel visual descriptive guide to what pain really feels like, in terms that mean something to people actually in pain. It’s a great addition to our usual pain scales. Perhaps you can show this to your patients next time you’re in clinic?

Number 4:  Some types of exercise are more effective than others at reducing pain in non-specific low back pain

Numerous high quality studies, including a Cochrane systematic review confirm that exercise is the most effective intervention available to treat non-specific low back pain.

The challenge is it’s hard to tell which type, form, duration, intensity and frequency of exercise we should choose for our patients. Thankfully a succinct summary of a network meta-analysis is available to clarify the situation and was read by over 870 top tips readers. You can read the summary by clicking the link below.
