Through each month of the year the Physiopedia Team focus on updating and creating content on a specific topic and last month it is spinal cord injuries.
December was another busy month for reviewing and creating pages for the Physiopedia Content Team. As our page numbers increase there is even more work to do, the team are tasked with reviewing existing pages and also creating pages that do not yet exist, and with over 3,500 pages of physiotherapy / physical therapy content this is no mean feat. With so many pages and an army of volunteers, every month we choose a topic to review – this helps to keep us focused and motivated. The team concentrates their efforts on updating references and ensuring there are no formatting errors but most important of all they search for the latest evidence and update pages accordingly.
In December the team thought it would be a good idea to look at Spinal Cord Injuries. Spinal cord injury is a debilitating neurological condition that affects all ages and genders and has a huge socio-economic impact on affected individuals and healthcare systems. A spinal cord injury can be complete – where all the nerves have been severed and both motor and sensory function is compromised or incomplete – where some nerves are intact or only slightly damaged and a certain level of recovery is possible. This is a large category and there are pages covering a wide range of topics from the types of injuries that occur, to assessment for different age groups and also management and intervention strategies. Here are a few of the pages that the team worked on this month:
- Spinal Cord Anatomy
- Contracture Management in Spinal Cord Injury
- Sensation
- Cardiovascular Training in Spinal Cord Injury
- Respiratory Management of Spinal Cord Injury
- Central Cord Syndrome
This is just a brief list of all the pages that were created and reviewed, there are too many pages to discuss them all here. So, why not find a quiet corner, grab a cup of coffee and have a browse.
We aim to review as many pages as possible each month and create pages that are needed but if you see pages that need improving or creating, not just on the topic of the month, please feel free to contact us with your comments.
