Topic of The Month – COVID-19

Each month the Physiopedia team focuses on updating pages centred around one topic. This enables us to keep improving all of our existing pages as well as creating new ones. The team often make changes to referencing and formatting but best of all they find the latest evidence and update the pages accordingly. This month our team of volunteers focused on topics relating to COVID-19 and respiratory conditions and interventions.

April saw a lot of challenges around the world but our dedicated volunteers still found the time to create and review pages for Physiopedia!  As many countries found themselves on lockdown because of the COVID-19 pandemic it was difficult to avoid this topic and there were many stories circulating some true, some false.  After creating some amazing pages in March for the Physioplus course we realised there was still more information to share so we continued with the same theme and also reviewed our Respiratory category.

April saw a big divide in the Physiotherapy workforce there were those on the frontline working hard with COVID-19 patients who needed respiratory interventions whilst others found themselves at home unable to work because of social distancing and country advice to stay home to manage the spread of the virus.  For many, this was an opportunity to reflect and look at other ways of working. Telehealth has become a buzzword, keep your eyes and ears open for more information coming soon on this topic.

But no matter what you did in the last 4 weeks it is obvious Physiotherapy has a major role to play in Respiratory care not just during this pandemic but throughout the year to manage a range of conditions.  Physiotherapists work tirelessly to assist and educate patients who find themselves short of breath or struggling with excess secretions.  You can see some of the fantastic pages created by the team below or you can browse through the COVID-19 and Respiratory categories:

If you missed the COVID-19 courses last month do not worry they are still available, you can read more about the courses here and if you are not already a Physioplus member this course is free (for a limited time) you can sign up for a free trial account!

We aim to review as many pages as possible each month and create pages that are needed but if you see pages that need improving or creating, not just on the topic of the month, please feel free to contact us with your comments.  Physiopedia is a resource created by physiotherapists for physiotherapists.  Your feedback is necessary and always welcome.
