Frequently Asked Questions
What is a blog?
The word blog comes from 'web log'. As entries are made into the blog they are displayed in reverse-chronological order, like an online diary. Each entry that is made contains the summary of one selected research article which is then dated for the day that it was entered. Readers are able to leave comments that are specifically related to a particular entry.
Who authors each blog?
Our Physiospot authors are physiotherapists with a special interest or expertise in the clinical area of the blog that they are contributing to. They independently review a wide number of journals as they are published and select appropriate clinically relevant articles to highlight.
How do we select the articles that we highlight?
When considering if an article is clinically relevant and appropriate for inclusion we consider whether the research is relevant to the specialist area of the blog, relevant to physiotherapy, relevant to clinical practice and interesting in the sense of being something important and actionable and whether it will contribute to evidence based practice. Why is this resource different to getting email alerts or feeds?
There are other services that one might use to receive similar information from journals such as email alerts and feeds, however we feel that the Physiospot service is superior in that the research is manually reviewed to select clinically relevant articles to summarise and highlight.
Can I get regular updates?
Yes and this is the best way view physiospot. If you are interested in one particular clinical area you can sign up for email alerts to your inbox or feeds to your aggregator direct from that specialist blog. If you would like to recieve updates from a number of our blogs we recommend downloading our toolbar which will alert you when any of the blogs are updated along with several other useful tools.
How will it contribute to my CPD?
By either reading from or contributing to our Physiospot blogs you will be undertaking a learning activity. This learning activity can be reflected upon and any resultant new learning can be actioned upon and implemented into your practice. This will contribute to your continual profesional development.
How will it help my EBP?
Physiospot is fully searchable to enable you to find suitable research that answers your specific clinical questions. This can therefore help you find the research that you need to support your evidence based practice.
Why are the articles not reviewed?
As there are an overwhelming number of articles being published we will only attempt to highlight a selection of those that are considered to be most clinically relevant. Even then we do not have the resources to fully appraise each article that we highlight. Some articles will have been appraised but on the whole we are unable to complete this for every article. However we do encourage this along with any other thoughts for discussion within the comments section following each post.
